We should repeal the Scotland and Wales Acts 1998 and all subsequent devolution legislation, abolishing the Scottish Parliament and Senedd Cymru.

The establishment of devolved legislatures in Scotland and Wales has proven as great a threat to parliamentary sovereignty as the ECHR.

Unicameral, European-style parliamentary structures and proportional representation mean Holyrood and Cardiff host assemblies fundamentally at odds with British constitutional tradition.

Policy divergences, such as tuition fees, have led to constant one-upmanship between Westminster and the devolved nations.

​

The Barnett Formula funding model has created a sense of being swindled by England, while the perception that English taxpayers subsidise free tuition and NHS prescriptions fuels resentment south of the border.

 

Devolution, intended to neutralise separatism, has instead provided nationalists a platform to agitate for the United Kingdom’s breakup.
